Background

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of New Mexico. I am an EMDR clinician and have completed Levels I and II Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy. As an LMHC, I work under the clinical supervision of a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor.

I’ve been a helping professional for over twenty-five years. I started out as a home-visit caregiver and companion to individuals who were disabled, chronically ill, or at end of life; and as a doula, providing psychosocial and practical support to clients during childbirth. In the early 2000’s I went to theological school, and became an ordained minister in the Unitarian Universalist tradition. For fifteen years, I led a large, progressive, and theologically diverse congregation in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Over the years, I provided interfaith pastoral counseling to a wide range of people: from atheists to the fervently religious; people of all ages and socioeconomic statuses; people in prisons, hospices, hospitals, and homes; people of many identities and orientations. In 2022, I decided to deepen and expand my skills by working toward becoming a licensed therapist. As part of my Masters in Counseling program, I completed a 100 hour practicum at Cottonwood Counseling and 600 hours of clinical counseling internship at You, Me, & Therapy, both in Albuquerque.

In 2025, I received licensure and transitioned to work as a therapist. It is deeply rewarding to weave this broad experience into the practice of psychotherapy!

Identity

When you’re looking for a therapist, it is natural to wonder about a clinician’s identity, whether because you hope to relate more easily with someone who has certain things in common with you, or because you are looking for a different perspective. I am a white, cis-gender, queer woman. I grew up in and struggled in the lower class before winning a scholarship to an Ivy League school as a young adult. (That was quite a culture shock!) English is my first language, but I am also fluent in Spanish and am the mother of two bilingual, bicultural, multiracial humans. I have a hidden disability, meaning most people do not perceive it, but it is part of my everyday life. I am a member of the Reform Jewish community.

These identities have helped attune me to a range of human experiences, and structures both seen and unseen in our society. Yet I do not know everything. I practice humility and ongoing, active learning in and beyond my role as therapist.
