Telehealth Therapy for New Mexico

I believe you are the expert in your own life.

Each of us possesses a deep capacity for insight, healing, and growth. A good therapist helps us get in touch with that part of ourselves. Good therapy also gives us resources, drawing on the therapist’s experience and knowledge about the mind, emotions, relationships, and the challenges and gifts of being human. I hold sessions via telehealth. Services include:

Person-Centered Therapy

What has prompted you to seek out therapy now? Maybe you are struggling with anxiety or depression, loss, grief, relationship challenges, or a life transition. Maybe it has to do with an unsettling feeling you can’t quite name. Whatever it is, I’ll work collaboratively with you to identify your goals and work with you toward them. My approach is trauma-informed, which means I prioritize creating a safe, supportive, and empowering environment that honors your autonomy and pace. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming and queer-identified, Poly/ENM inclusive, and kink-friendly. I incorporate mindfulness, feminist, and existential therapy approaches.

EMDR

EMDR is an evidence-based therapy for trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and certain other mental health conditions. Unlike trauma therapies that require the client to “re-live” the trauma by talking it through, EMDR utilizes bilateral movement along with the client’s natural thought processes (and few words) to desensitize distressing memories and reduce trauma symptoms.

EMDR is well studied and there is lots of information about it online. If you’d like to look into it on your own, the EMDR Institute is a good place to start. The EMDR International Association has also produced a short video.

Support for Existential/Spiritual Matters

Do you have anxiety about mortality? Or do you wonder about your life’s meaning? Perhaps you are nearing the end of life and would like a supportive place to process your thoughts, feelings, and unfinished business. In addition to clinical training as a therapist, including studies in existential therapy, I hold a Master of Divinity degree, training in interfaith chaplaincy, and many years of experience serving as an ordained minister to a theologically diverse population (including many atheists). I am experienced and knowledgable in Judaism, Buddhism, Humanism, Unitarian Universalism, Wicca, and Christianity, and enjoy working with people of all faiths and no-faith. I support my clients in their unique path, in navigating issues related to religious community, and addressing trauma from religious or spiritual harm.

Therapy for Autistic Adults: Late-Diagnosed, Late-Realized, or “High-Masking”

As the scientific world grows in its understanding of autism, more people are being accurately diagnosed or are realizing on their own that they are, or might be, autistic. Late-identified autists typically flew below the radar earlier in life because they present differently or are “high-masking.” They may have had no idea they were autistic until they experienced something in life that taxed their ability to mask, leading to increased symptoms or autistic burnout. Autistic women especially tend to be overlooked in childhood.

Therapies that work well in non-autistic populations (such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) may be less effective among autists. Therapists who are not educated about autism, and especially about high-masking autism, may misdiagnose or misunderstand autistic experiences and traits. Communication between autistic clients and non-autistic therapists can also be challenging. As a late-diagnosed autist myself, and as a therapist who pays particular attention to the needs of this special population, it would be fair to say I have a “special interest” in helping you thrive!

Please note that at this time I cannot provide formal autism assessments. However an official diagnosis is not required for us to work together. Self-diagnosis is valid. And if you are unsure whether you are autistic, I can offer you support and resources in exploring that question.

Couples Therapy

I offer therapy for couples utilizing the Gottman Method, Mindfulness, and principles of Non-Violent Communication. I assist couples with:

  • Conflict

  • Restoring a sense of connection and intimacy

  • Learning new relationship skills

  • Navigating transition

  • Discussing tough topics

  • Recovering from infidelity

    And more!

Support for Other Relationship Types

I am also available to work with pairs of friends, a parent and their adult child, throuples, and other relationship types. Feel free to message me or request a free 15-minute consultation for more information.

Please note that while children/teens may occasionally be part of a special therapy session, I am only able to accept regular clients who are 18 and older.
